Jussie Smollett issues a statement after charges are dropped

Jussie Smollett was a regular actor on the popular TV show “Empire” which airs weekly on Fox. As a little kid, Jussie Smollett has appeared in several TV sitcoms and movies, however landing his spot on “Empire” is by far his biggest career accomplishment. In February 2019, reports came out that Jussie Smollett had become the victim of a hate crime perpetrated by a what was thought to be a duo of white supremacist men. When the news first broke, people everywhere were in disbelief that such an incident would happen to a seemingly innocent actor.

A backstory of The Incident

The controversy surrounding Jussie Smollett centers around allegations made by the actor that he was attacked while walking to a subway late night in Chicago. Jussie Smollett was going to get something to eat at subway late at night around 3am in Chicago when the temperature was below freezing temperatures. While he was walking, two men allegedly asked if he was “That Empire N**##* F*##*#” which was very derogatory and aggressive.

After Smollett responded to the two men, they proceeded to beat him up and placed a noose around his neck. While the two men were allegedly assaulting Smollett, they reportedly also yelled out “This is MAGA country” which is a reference to the slogan used in Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. The racist remarks and seemingly violent assault launched an investigation by the CPD.

The Investigation of The Jussie Smollett Incident

The Chicago Police Department launched an investigation into the incident and for quite some time they were having trouble piecing together evidence. As time progressed, the Chicago Police Department stumbled upon some interesting evidence. These revelations completely changed the direction of the investigation and put Jussie Smollett in the place of the criminal.

The Chicago Police Department found evidence which suggested that Jussie Smollett staged the entire incident for publicity. The Chicago police department found checks that were written to two men who were filmed inside of a store buying the rope found on the scene.

Jussie Smollett is Cleared of All Charges

Chicago police filed charges against Jussie Smollett for staging a hate crime and interfering with the work of law enforcement. As of Match 2019, all 16 counts against Smollett have been dropped, so he will not face any jail time. Many people still have questions as to what really happened that day of the incident and it has been said that the FBI is now looking into the events that led up to the charges abruptly being dropped.

Others speculate that police may have found evidence of the actual perpetrators and were forced to drop the charges against Smollett. The entire incident has caused a media frenzy and Jussie Smollett even lost his role on the hit show “Empire” indefinitely. During the press interview after his court hearing, Jussie Smollett constantly reminded people that he was telling the truth from the beginning and still stands by his claims today.
