Anthony Anderson Hopes Jussie Smollett wins NAACP Award

Anthony Anderson has raised a media storm recently with his comments regarding Jussie Smollett and his NAACP award nomination. Anthony Anderson is hosting the upcoming NAACP awards this year and the media outlet Variety was able to get him to answer a few questions. The news outlet caught up with Anderson and asked him what he thought about the Jussie Smollett case to which Anderson replied that he hopes Jussie wins the award for the category he’s nominated in at the upcoming awards event. Anthony Anderson is known for his rather bold style of comedy and straightforward personality which confused many people on how to take his comments.

Thoughts on Jussie Smollett

Ironically enough, Jussie Smollett is nominated for an NAACP award at this year’s show for his role on the hit Fox network show Empire. Variety spoke with Anderson who will be hosting the awards this year about his thoughts on the topic were very interesting. Anderson said that he hopes Smollett wins his nomination because it’s clear that “the system worked for him” which immediately drew undertones of racial injustice within the U.S. legal system.

Over the past week prosecution began surrounding the incidents of the case and all charges were dropped against Smollett as of the weekend. The two brother filmed buying the rope have yet to be indicted on any charges which may many people side eying the decision of the case.

Anderson went on to further explain that there are always instances of the system working against minorities, he views the Jussie Smollett case as one of the few times where the system has actually benefited a minority citizen. This brought relief to many as what was thought to be a joke originally actually turned out to be a sincere comment rooted in real observation.

What to expect from Anderson?

With so many eyes on him, who knows what we can expect from Anthony Anderson at this year’s NAACP award show. The renowned comedian is sure to have plenty of jokes aimed at various figures in today’s political climate alongside current events happening in the world at large. Being that the NAACP blamed president trump when news of the Jussie Smollett case broke, it’s unclear as to whether or not the organization is still nominating him for any awards.  

Anthony Anderson is open-minded and wants to hear both sides of the story before passing any judgment or conclusions. Regardless if Jussie Smollett wins or not, the entire situation is a great lesson for many and can be used to start a very important discussion.
