While tensions continue to rise on the U.S./Mexico border each day, President Donald Trump is still getting rid of critical homeland security officials which can put the country’s safety at risk. This past week president Donald Trump forced the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen to resign after the president criticized her policies and operation of the department. News recently broke that Trump is continuing his reign of terror on Homeland security as he just fired more top-level department of homeland security staff. The president is making bold and sporadic moves that put the entire country in jeopardy which is why Democratic politicians are trying desperately to find ways provide critical oversight and reigning in of the POTUS.
The white house recently announced that the director of the secret service, Randolph D. Alles will be resigning from his position. This move by the President doesn’t come as a surprise due to the fact that Randolph had a rocky relationship with the current commander in chief. The issues surrounding his firing likely stem from an incident that occurred at the president’s Mar-a-Lago club. In a statement, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders advised that Alles “has done a great job at the agency” and would be stepping down soon and replaced by James M. Murray, a career Secret Service member set to start in May.
What It All Means For The Country
With high-profile government positions being vacant, the president doesn’t seem to understand the implications his actions could have on the country as a whole. Many of the recent high-level government employee layoffs have been directly orchestrated by Trump who has shown increasing frustration with the very people he elected to be in his inner circle. Current Government officials have gone off the record to state that four other high-level officials who were close to former secretary Nielsen are also expected to leave office soon.
Now that many of the most important figures in the department of homeland security and secret service are fired, the positions need to be filed with new appointees. To add onto the already worsening situation, president Trump recently threatened to close down the southwestern border completely. This is also another attempted display of power by the president to put stress on the Mexican economy as a way of forcing them to obey his commands.
