Kanye West has just announced that he signed an exclusive deal with Showtime to produce an anthology series called Omniverse. The series is set to feature eclectic phenom Jaden Smith as a younger version of Kanye West. Smith will star as an alternate reality version of West, who is set to serve as an executive producer on the show next to decorated talent manager Scooter Braun. The series is set to consist of three separate half-hour shows that will explore “the many doors of perception” as stated by sources close to the production. While an official premiere date has not been released, both Kanye and Showtime have confirmed that the show is in production.
Details about the series
Season one of the Omniverse series will focus on how we as humans view the ego and the way in which it impacts our lives as a whole. The show will be narrated from the perspective of an alternate reality in which Kanye West is a much younger version of himself. The show is set to be executive produced by Kanye West himself and his manager Scooter Braun who is also producing the Undone EP with Lee Sung Jin as a writer. The first season of Omniverse will examine the ego depicted by the alternate reality embodiment of the West. Lee Sung Jin, who previously worked on Silicon Valley, said in a statement, “I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West. Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half-hour narrative.”
