Well-respected and seasoned actress, producer, and director Regina King has just announced that she signed an exclusive film distribution deal with popular streaming service Netflix. Chief Content Officer at Netflix Ted Sarandos, stated the following about signing the new multi-year deal with Regina, “Regina King is a multi-faceted talent both behind and in front of the camera. She’s been a trailblazer for years, with boundless creativity and impeccable taste in projects, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that she will bring her formidable talents to Netflix.”
Details About The Deal
The exclusive deal is set to position Regina King as the lead director and producer for various independent films and internet TV series which will be released under her production company named RoyalTies. There has been no official news released in regards to exactly how much the deal is worth but more details on the partnership will be released soon. Regina King has experienced a fruitful past few years even winning a coveted spot on Time Magazine’s most influential people of 2019 list.
The decorated actress and producer also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as “Sharon Rivers” in the movie If Beale Street Could Talk. King also recently won her third Emmy award for her role as Latrice Butler on the Netflix title Seven Seconds in 2018, and also previously won two Emmys in categories including Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Category for her character on the ABC series American Crime. This same series is also what got Regina King her first Golden Globe nomination.
Regina King has an extensive history on screen, starting in the business when she was a young girl as “Brenda” on the hit sitcom 227. Her first movie role was in the late John Singleton’s cult classic Boyz n the Hood, playing Ice Cube’s fiery female sidekick.
