Justin Timberlake to Be Honored by Songwriters Hall of Fame

Justin Timberlake has a very colorful history in the entertainment business,

having won several awards and racked up many achievements along the way. It was recently announced that the pop icon will be honored at the upcoming Songwriters Hall of Fame event which will be hosted on June 13, 2019, in New York City. Justin is scheduled to receive the Contemporary Icon Award at one of the music industry’s biggest celebratory gatherings. The Songwriters Hall of Fame stated that the award is given to “songwriter-artists who have attained an iconic status in pop culture.” Justin Timberlake will join the ranks of artists such as Lady gaga who received the award in 2015.

The 2019 Songwriter Hall of Fame will include legendary acts like Missy Elliot, John Prine, Cat Stevens, Jack Tempchin, Tom T. Hall, and Dallas Austin. Let’s take a look at the top 10 moments of Just Timberlake’s career which led him to this point:


N’Sync Days

Justin Timberlake got his start in music as part of the very popular American boy band Nsync who released their debut album in 1997 titled “’N Sync.” The band was highly successful and achieved several accomplishments before disbanding which led to Justin’s solo career. No Strings Attached, the group’s second studio album, sold over a million copies in just one day and a whopping 2.42 million copies at the end of the first week – which ended up being a record for over fifteen years. In addition to their chart and award success, the group performed at the World Series, Super Bowl, and the Olympic Games.


Writing Hit Song “Cry Me A River”

“Cry Me A River” is one of Justin Timberlake’s biggest songs being released in 2002 and achieving critical acclaim. The song, written by Timberlake, producer Timbaland, and Scott Storch, also became the first top-three solo single that Justin Timberlake got on the Billboard charts by himself. In addition to winning the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, the song was also entered into Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“SexyBack” Release

“SexyBack”, a hit single from the second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, released by the famous singer in 2006, became his first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song, written by Timberlake, producer Timbaland, and Nate Hills, stayed in the number one position for 7 weeks. The song also went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite R&B song and Male Artist of the Year at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.
Oscar Nomination

In 2016, Justin Timberlake co-wrote a track titled “Can’t Stop the Feeling” which was nominated for an Oscar and was used in the highly successful DreamWorks movie titled “Trolls.” Timberlake said of most downloaded of 2016, “I’m really humbled by the whole thing. I think most of all, I was excited the whole year that people responded to the song. Now more than ever we need something that puts a kick in someone’s step and unites us through a good feeling. I think that is what I was always most happy about that it gives people a good feeling. For the Academy to recognize this song? Wow. Yeah, I’m pinching myself.”

“Dick In A Box”

In December of 2016, Timberlake hosted Saturday Night Live as, both, host and musical guest for the second time. During this episode, Justin linked up with comedic actor Andy Sandberg and performed a song for a skit titled “Dick in a Box”. The clip immediately went viral and went on to become a classic moment for the long-running sketch show. Radio stations began airing the song as an unofficial single by the decorated popstar and Billboard called it “one of the most iconic moments in the show’s history. Rolling Stone added the skit at number 3 on their “50 Greatest ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sketches of All Time. Timberlake later won an Emmy Award for the song.
Duet with Late Michael Jackson

Justin Timberlake released a Timbaland produced a remake of  Michael Jackson’s “Love Never Felt So Good” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 9. The song later became Michael Jackson’s 29th top-ten single and Timberlake’s 16th.
20/20 Experience

Timberlake’s 2014 album titled “The 20/20 Experience” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. He released a second part to “The 20/20 Experience” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts as well.
“Suit & Tie feature Jay-Z”

Timberlake’s 2013 collaboration with Jay-Z titled “Suit & Tie” peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 3. The song sold 315,000 downloads the first week of release, “SexyBack’s”  250,000 debut. “Suit & Tie” later became Timberlake’s highest sales week for a download at the time.
Saturday Night Live with GaGa

In 2011, Timberlake hosted Saturday Night Live with fellow pop star Lady Gaga in an episode that features an original digital short named “3 Way (The Golden Rule)” it’s a funny clip that consists of Timberlake trying to seduce Gaga.

His list of awards and accolades is long with 10 Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, four Emmy’s and 3 Brit Awards.
