Nipsey Hussle was gunned down outside of his Los Angeles “Marathon” clothing

store on March 31st this year. The shocking news understandably polarized the hip-hop and rap community due to the late rapper’s influence on his peers in the music industry. Fellow hip-hop superstar DJ Khaled had a strong relationship with the now deceased Hussle and the two recorded a joint song together before Nipsey’s untimely passing. Recently, Khaled announced that all of the proceeds he receives from the song will go to Nipsey Hussle’s children.

Dj Khaled & Nipsey’s New Song

The song, titled “Higher” features DJ Khaled and Nipsey Hussle and soul crooner John Legend and will be released as the third single off of Khaled’s Father of Asahd album. On Wednesday Khaled took to Twitter to explain how he plans to handle the proceeds that he receives from the joint song, “Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years. It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend Nipsey Hussle.” He went on to state that he plans to donate 100% of the proceeds to Nipsey Hussle’s children, which are Kross (2) and Emani (10).  Khaled also spoke about how days before Nipsey Hussle was shot, “he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called, ‘Higher.”

Nipsey’s Family

Before deciding to release the song, DJ Khaled got the blessing from Nipsey Hussle’s family stating, “After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that with the world, the very title of the song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ level was the essence of Nipsey’s soul.” Khaled along with several other artists in the hip-hop industry had developed a rather strong relationship with Nipsey before his passing.

Khaled also talked about how his decision to release the collaboration is in the spirit of continuing Nipsey’s message. The decorated producer said the following, “ It is in this spirit, of moving forward, of preserving his mission that I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100% of all of our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross.”

The collaboration between Nipsey Hussle, DJ Khaled, and John Legend was released on Friday when his upcoming album Father of Asahd hit the public. This news comes just days after Nipsey Hussle’s sister Samantha Smith filed for legal guardianship over his daughter Emani. As more news develops around exactly what happened during Nipsey Hussle’s murder, the news of a new collaboration with Khaled is wonderful news in the midst of turmoil.
