Michelle Obama and Meghan Markle team up for a virtual installment of The United Nations Foundation annual Girl Up Leadership Summit. Originally created in 2010, its objective is to bring young women together for global change. The leadership summit took place on July 13-15 this year. On Monday, the campaign’s YouTube page uploaded a speech by the former first lady.
“Over these past few months, there’s been so much uncertainty. You all are dealing with serious loss in your own families and abrupt changes to your daily lives, especially when it comes to your educations”, said Michelle Obama,
Obama also praised members of the initiative for their determination to create a brighter future for others. On day 2, July 14, the Duchess Of Sussex also commended foundation members with a pre-recorded video uploaded to Youtube.
“Girl Up members are organizing Black Lives Matter protests around the world, you are creating films to encourage your peers to become activist leaders..,…you are reforming the criminal justice system, you are telling your school boards we need more mental health resources for all ages, you are leading coalitions to end gun violence” said Meghan Markle.
