Frank Ocean has launched a new campaign encouraging all of his followers to vote Trump out of office.
In a recent post on Instagram, Frank wrote. “Debates are on. It all feels fake. The problem’s that it’s not. Donald is President and might not leave the White House even if he loses the race so some say. Please vote. Watching him dragged out will be way more entertaining than these debates. If you’re not registered swipe up to BLONDED.CO. The form just takes two minutes to fill out. Goodnight.â€
What Is It
The rapper/songwriter/activist offered a new feature to his personal website with a clock counting down to Election Day (November 3, 2020). Within two minutes, visitors can register to vote through a direct link. Fans can also make sure they’re registered to vote and or restore their vote if they’ve been convicted of a felony. Frank Ocean is not a newcomer to increasing the youth voter turnout. The GRAMMY award-winning artist also released free merch for people who voted during the 2018 United States Midterm Elections. The limited apparel items were paired with the artist’s blondedRADIO Midterms Special episodes.
Frank is not the only artist using his platform to encourage voter turnout. Last week, Tyler, The Creator, urged followers to “pull up” to the polls and admitted that it will be his first time voting. In an effort to continue registration efforts, Run The Jewels have partnered with Adult Swim to perform their RTJ4 album live. In order to show the importance of political process participation, Billie Eilish performed at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
What to Expect
Though the future outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election is unpredictable, many who are in the spotlight will continue to voice their support for voting.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, more absentee ballots and mail in voting will be taking place. It is unlikely that the presidential seat will be announced on election night as some key states do not allow ballots to be counted until Election Day. Major delays are expected similar to the June primary when Philadelphia officials were still counting votes a week after the election.
On December 14, 2020, the members of the Electoral College will meet within each state to cast their formal votes for president while state election officials will use certified election results for the electors. The winner will not truly be official until January 6, 2021, when Congress is scheduled to meet in a ceremonial count of the Electoral College results.
