Instagram Is Launching a TikTok Rival Next Month.

TikTok is a video sharing social network that allows it’s users to post short clips of themselves dancing to particular songs or audio snippets. In recent years, TikTok has gained a massive viral popularity in recent years largely with the younger generation of social media users. Well, Instagram has been around for a much longer time than TikTok however the team over there clearly recognizes the potential threat that it could turn into.

Because of this, Instagram recently announced that it would be releasing an app to rival TikTok’s recent success called “Reels.” From the information released in the official statement from Instagram, it appears that the new “Reels” feature will be an integration to this existing Instagram platform with a specific name.

What is clear so far is that “Reels” is a feature that is being exclusively built for the purpose of broadcasting and capturing short-length videos. The new integration is being rolled out to the main Instagram platform in Early august as per an official Instagram spokesperson.

Details about the app

When the new “Reels” platform launches, it will be available in the U.S. and in an additional 50 countries. An official Facebook spokesperson said the following about the atmosphere at the company surrounding the new platform: “We’re excited to bring Reels to more countries, including the U.S., in early August.”

The representative continued their statement about the release of the new “Reels” platform by saying the following: “The community in our test countries has shown so much creativity in short-form video, and we’ve heard from creators and people around the world that they’re eager to get started as well.”

The Reels platform was designed to take TikTok head-on in a duel to see which short-form video centered application will gain the most traction. When the app finally launches, you can expect to be able to create 15-second videos to any kind of music, soundtrack, or audio clip.

There will also be a plethora of editing tools available on the Reels platform including: a countdown timer, video speed adjustment capabilities, and numerous other editing tools. The entire purpose behind this new platform is to make the creative process much more engaging and intuitive for those who want to get into the social media marketing and promotion space.

What to expect

From the perspective of an outsider looking in, this is a very smart move by Instagram to try to put out an app that can compete with the massive amount of popularity that TikTok has gotten within such a short span of time. However, TikTik has also been under the eyes of intense debate due to the app’s strong connections with the Chinese government.

With certain countries like India already placing complete bans on the use of TikTok, Instagram is taking preemptive measures to position itself as a formidable competitor in the market of short-form video focused social media platforms. TikTok isn’t the only competitor that Instagram has however, there are plenty of other apps like Dubsmash, Triller, and Byte who are slowly but surely becoming major players in the market of short-form video social sharing sites.
