Kanye West Says He Must Be Freed from All Record Deals or He Won’t Release New Music

In his latest announcement, Kanye West declares that he will not be making new music until he is released from his current contracts.

After failing to release his new album, “Donda,” earlier this summer, the presidential hopeful made his announcement via Twitter Monday night. He also took the time to throw shade at fellow rappers Drake and J.Cole.

Taking to Twitter

“I’m not putting no more music out till I’m done with my contract with Sony and Universal. Oh God … in Jesus name … come and get me,” Kanye tweeted referring to his current publisher and record label.

Firing off additional tweets, he typed, “I need to see everybody’s contracts at Universal and Sony … I’m not gonna watch my people be enslaved. He continued, “I’m putting my life on the line for my people…The music industry and the NBA are day slave ships. I’m the new Moses.”

Downhill Spiral

In July, wife Kim Kardashian spoke out about West’s mental health issues when he made an erratic presidential bid announcement. Since then, he stated that we would not be running, but “walking” for president and plans to run after the 2020 election.

Kardashian took to Instagram stating, “As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.”

It seems that West is still struggling with his mental health and well-being. Over the past year, the rapper has gone from being a successful Hip Hop artist and fashion mogul to a Christian revivalist and a presidential nominee.

What It Means

West will not be releasing new material at the present time. However, Kanye is known for constantly working on music. Many believe his summer album is already done, but it appears he is waiting until he is out of the contractual obligations before its release.

Getting out of a record contract is often an extremely difficult process for an artist, but there are a few options. The first is for West to prove that he was under duress when the contract was signed. If proven true, the contract would be nullified. The second way would be for West to take both Sony and Universal to court and win a case against them.

What to Expect

If the present is a good indicator of the future, there is no telling what West will be up to in the coming days/weeks/months. If West remains in his current state of mind, fans may have to wait quite some time before they get another project from the rapper.
