According to the website NJ.com, Kanye West submitted approximately 1,300 signatures to New Jersey’s official division of election. Only 800 were required to become eligible to make the list of independent presidential candidates. Further details of the filing indicate that Kanye West has not yet decided on a specific slogan for his presidential campaign, although given his genius mind, we’re sure one is about to come.Â
Kanye West is known for making bold political statements and being outspoken on a variety of other topics outside of the political field. Since the beginning of his career, Kanye West has been shrouded in controversy, one of the most notable ones being the incident involving his statement that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” during a Hurricane Katrina relief commercial in 2005.Â
More recently, he caught national attention when he seemingly announced that he would be running to become a candidate in the 2020 presidential race. While many thought that his announcement was purely baseless, Kanye West seems to be taking it very seriously as the star recently filed appear on the upcoming New Jersey voting ballot.Â
Details about the matterÂ
Kanye West announced his candidacy earlier this month and many people put it off as nothing more than one of his rants. However, it seems that mr West is taking his bid for the 2020 presidential spot very seriously. His filing to become a presidential candidate choice on NJ’s ballot comes off the heels of a controversial rally he recently held in Charleston, South Carolina a few weeks back.
During the rally Kanye made some incendiary remarks about civil rights icon Harriet Tubman. Kanye made remarks about how Tubman simply took slaves from one plantation to another to have them “work for a new master” which set blaze to many long-histories civil rights figures and politicians on both sides.Â
What to expect
With so many things going on in the world and with Kanye’s previous past with mental health issues, his 2020 run for president is surely something that people will keep their eyes on.
