Rapper turned author, Lil Nas X, announced the release of his new children’s book Tuesday. C Is for Country will follow Lil Nas X and Panini the pony, a character who shares the name with one of his hit songs.
The rapper tweeted, “I’m dropping the best kids’ book of all time soon! Can’t wait to share it with you all.â€
The children’s book published by Random House Kids will be available in bookstores January 5, 2021 and is now available for online pre-order.
What It Is
According to the Random House Kids’ website, the book is targeted at children between the ages of 3 and 7. The plot of the book focuses on Lil Nas X and Panini the pony adventuring “on a joyous journey through the alphabet from sunup to sundown.â€
Illustrated by Theodore Taylor III, Random House claims that C is for Country will include “plenty of hidden surprises for Nas’ biggest fans.â€
Following in the Footsteps
Lil Nas X is not the only musician to be an author of children’s books. In fact, he joins a growing list of some music’s greatest legends.
- Madonna – The Pop star signed a five-book deal in 2003 with Callaway Arts & Entertainment. Later that year, she released her first children’s book The English Roses illustrated by Jeffrey Fulvimair and became the fastest selling children’s book of all time. She continued her success with a four-part book series that included Mr. Peabody’s Apples, Yakov and the Seven Thieves, The Adventurers of Abdi, and Lotsa de Casha.
- Bob Dylan – Various Bob Dylan songs have been illustrated by authors and sold as children’s books including Forever Young, Man Gave Names to All the Animals, Blowin’ in the Wind, and If Dogs Run Free.
- Julie Andrews – The beloved musical singer has penned a number of children’s books after having surgery and losing her ability to sing. Titles include: Mandy, The Very Fairy Princess: Attitude of Gratitude, The Very Fairy Princess: A Spooky, Sparkly Halloween, and The Very Fairy Princess Doodle Book.
- David Bowie– David Bowie published Musical Storyland, which included a singalong disc in 2004.
- Courtney Love – Courtney Love’s comic book, Princess Ali, told the story about a girl who gets transported to Tokyo where she falls in love.
